Clidy B. Atkinson Gamble, 91, of Erie, Pa. died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at UPMC Hamot.
She was born to the late Ezekial (Zeke) and Lula Atkinson on Thursday, May 9, 1929 in Houston, Miss.
Clidy spent most of her early life in Mississippi, graduating from Crawford High School. After relocating to Erie, she joined Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.H. Hunter. She served on the pastor's aide ministry and a faithful member of the choir. She had a passion to serve the Lord, regularly attending Sunday School. Clidy loved to watch baseball and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She worked at various jobs to include the Salvation Army, General Electric and GECAC.
She was preceded in death sisters and brothers, Ida Mae Hamilton, Reed Atkinson, Ada Bean, Isaiah Atkinson, Eulus Atkinson, Edith Gates, Ned Atkinson, Ludean Crockett, Georgia Ravnell, Lottie Atkinson and Izora Atkinson.
Clidy loved gardening and was a "feisty" woman with a wonderful sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Gamble II; son, Joseph Gamble.
She leaves to cherish her memory; son, Herman Gamble III (Tawnyea) of Erie, Pa.; daughters, Helen Johnson (Lester) of Perry Hall, Md., Sylvia Lindsey (Charles) of Milton, Fla., Sheila Gamble of Hanover, Md., Dorothy Gamble and Melissa Gamble both of Erie, Pa.; brother William Atkinson of Erie, Pa.; 16 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
