Leonard Phil Sly age 69 of Erie, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24,2023 at Twin Brook Healthcare. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 28,1953, to the late Minnie Turner Sly and George Sly. He attended Westinghouse Academy School in Pittsburgh. He worked for the salvation army for 10+ years and volunteered for the soup kitchen for over 30 years. Leonard was an active member of Second Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board. He loved singing, swimming and playing basketball in his earlier years. In addition, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed watching both basketball and football. What brought him the most joy was spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents, George and Minnie Sly and his wife Twanda Davis of 20 years. He leaves to cherish his memories significant other Christine Mims. children; Leonard Sly Jr., LaShawnda Washington, Mark Lewis (Sherell Mitchell), Edward Zigler Jr. (Crystal Johnson), Vincent (Randi) Davis, Tiffany Zigler and James Zigler (Corina Sutton) and Lekia Washington. 28 grandchildren A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Leonard will truly be missed by all his family and church members. A public viewing will be held at Second Baptist Church 757 East 26th Street Erie, PA 16504 on Thursday, March 30,2023 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of his celebration of life service at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Lamont Higginbottom, Eulogizing. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements entrusted to House of Paradise Cremation & Funeral Services Inc.
