Obituary for Sarah Windham

Sarah W. Windham, (94) received her ETERNAL wings at home surrounded by her family on November 14, 2022. She was born December 8, 1927 in Baldwyn, MS., to the late Elliott and Annie Belle Farmer Windham.
Sarah graduated from High School in Baldwyn, MS. She also attended Okolona junior college in Okolona, MS,. Upon settling in Erie, Sarah attained her Cosmetology Degree from THE ERIE OIC. She was a WILLING learner and worker who was equally dedicated to her family; receiving respect and love from ALL who knew her.
Sarah confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Baldwyn, where she attended until relocating with her older sisters, to Erie pa., in the mid 194O’S.
Mother Windham, became an active member of the Second Baptist Church in 1947, until she later became a charter member of the newly formed Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in 1959. Mother Windham served faithfully at Antioch, in many ministries; she was a Sunday school teacher, past Pastor’s aid president and a member of the gospel chorus.
Mother Windham also was a regular traveling participant, at the Congress of Christian Education, Baptist Convention USA, Inc., and proudly served on the Antioch Mother’s Board until her death. Mother Windham will be fondly remembered for her faith teaching and mentoring of young women; many who later themselves became laypersons in their own church families.

She retired from the Erie School District following an illness in 1985. Sarah enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, bible study and participating in church events and programs that moved the mission of the churches forward.
Besides her parents, she was also proceeded by (4) brothers; George, Elliott jr., Leroy, and Charles Windham, (6) sisters; Rosie pierce, Nancy Simmons, Katherine Cole, Annie Belle Randolph, Dorothy Barnett and Irene Copeland, (1) God-Daughter, Patricia Woodard. Mother Sarah Windham was the last living of her siblings and will be deeply missed by the Farmer and Windham descendants.
She leaves to cherish her legacy two daughters, Marcia A. Hooks, of Glenarden, MD, Shirley R. Windham, of Erie, PA. (2) Grandchildren, Michelle Hooks (Mack Johnson), Erie. PA, Michael E. Hooks II (Tanisha) Glenarden, MD., five great-grandchildren, Diont’e, Alaya and Amir of Erie; Ryleigh and Logan of Glenarden, MD., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and family-in- love. Mother Windham, also leaves her beloved Antioch Church family.
Mother Windham, will long be remembered by her strong hearted spirit, unwavering work in the ministry, and constant LOVE for her family and the church. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Great Lakes Hospice care at UPMC Hamot, aides, family and friends for their care, concern and comfort.

Friends may visit with the family at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 160 West 20th Street, on Saturday November 19th, 2022, visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. the service will follow at 12 o’clock noon.
Rev. D. F. Hunter will be officiating with Pastor Floyd R. McClure eulogizing. Burial will be at the Erie Cemetery. Professional services are entrusted to House of Paradise Cremation & Funeral Services Inc.
