Obituary

Monique Marie Lockett, 52, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly in her residence on Friday, December 18, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Monique was the eldest born to the late Jesse D. Lockett and Dorothy Keys Lockett, on October 19, 1968 in Erie, Pa. After graduating from East High School she went on to further her education at Mercyhurst University. In 1991 she began working for the PA. Dept. of Labor & Industry as an interviewer. After 14 years of service she retired and began her entrepreneurship as a car dealer, property manager and many other successful ventures.

Monique was an enterprising businesswoman, with a passion to live an enriching life.

She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church but in her youth she attended Second Baptist Church where her late great-grandmother, Etta Keys and her uncle the late Rev. Perry Keys Sr. were charter members.

Monique loved to shop and travel but her most cherished time was spent with her grandchildren. She was a kind woman with a loving spirit and will be deeply missed by all.

She leaves to cherish her legacy; her leading lady, daughter Sylvia Cooley; sons, David Lockett and Kyle Lockett, all of Erie, Pa.; grandchildren, Kyle and Zayyir Lockett, Sariyah and Brandon Cooley & Lailah Ellis; siblings, Jesse Lockett (Ricardo) of Erie, Pa., Danielle Lockett of Arizona, Marc Lockett of Virginia; her children's step-father, Anthony Billinger, life long friend Sylvester Cooley, best friend Rewa Cattledge, close cousins Tina Graham and Cassandra Crockett and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Lockett-Cooley family wishes to extend their gratitude to The LECOM Visiting Nurse Association, and a very special thank you to Dr. Holly Bean and Dr. Jon Izbicki.

When Monique’s brother, Marc, called to say she passed, I couldn’t believe it. Immediately, the memories started flowing. I remember Monique being so protective of her little brother, and here I was in my 20s stuck to him like Velcro. She was always kind to me whenever I visited Erie, she went out of her way for us to go on adventures. I remember her buying me a pair of earrings out of the blue. I remember her driving us in this huge Escalade to Niagara Falls to the casino! I had never been to Erie before meeting Marc in college, so I felt like I got the inside scoop thru Monique’s eyes. You couldn’t tell me Monique wasn’t running the show! I remember her best as a great sister, a loving mother, and dutiful daughter! Most of all, she was a straight shooter and I loved that. They won’t make ‘em like her anymore. I wish Kyle, David and Sylvia all of the comfort their heart can handle. To her siblings, I am sorry she has left this Earthly place so soon, but I know she will live in your hearts. Love, Wenda

My heartfelt condolences to the family. My heart was saddened by the news of her passing. She was such a funny lady with a dry since of humor which made you laugh with her. I had the priviledge of working with her and she kept us laughing. She will be very much missed in this world. We should celebrate her life and times that we all shared. God bless the family with peace and strength beyond all understanding as they go through this difficult time. God bless you Monique you will truly be missed but never forgotten.
